CBN Sells Fresh Dollars To BDC Operators At ₦1,021/$1
CBN Sells Fresh Dollars To BDC Operators At ₦1,021/$1....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has informed Bureau De Change (BDC) operators about the sale of $10,000 at the rate of ₦1,021/$1. This notification of discounted sales was conveyed in a recent statement issued by the apex bank to the BDC operators.
This action marks the second such sale this month and the fourth in the current year. The objective is to cater to the retail-end market, especially for transactions such as travel allowances, tuition fees, and medical payments.
Under this policy, the CBN allows the sale of a total of $10,000 to each eligible BDC, who, in turn, sells to end users with a maximum markup of 1.5% over the buying price. This measure aims to prevent price gouging and ensure that the benefits of the discounted rate reach consumers requiring foreign exchange for various personal transactions.
The circular from the CBN regarding the fresh sale states: “We write to inform you of the sale of $10,000 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to BDCs at the rate of N1,021/$1. The BDCs are instructed to sell to eligible end users at a spread of NOT MORE THAN 1.5 percent above the purchase price.
“ALL eligible BDCs are directed to commence payment of the Naira deposit to the underlisted CBN Naira Deposit Account Numbers from today, Monday, April 22, 2024, and submit confirmation of payment, along with other necessary documentation, for the disbursement of FX at the respective CBN Branches.”
Recalling previous actions, the CBN had announced in February 2024 the sale of $20,000 to each BDC at the rate of N1,301/$. Subsequently, the bank reduced the allocation by 50% and sold FX at a rate of N1,251/$1 in the second attempt. Earlier this month, the apex bank had a sale of $10,000 to each BDC at a rate of N1,101/$1.

Cooking Gas Prices Drop Significantly Across Nigeria: Relief for Households and Businesses
A recent survey conducted by Naija News has revealed a notable decrease in the price of cooking gas in Nigeria, offering much-needed relief to households and small businesses. According to the survey, the cost of refilling cooking gas per kilogram has reduced significantly from ₦1,350 to ₦1,020.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This positive development is expected to ease the financial burden on Nigerian families and small enterprises, especially those that heavily depend on cooking gas as a primary energy source. The survey, encompassing gas stations and vendors from various parts of the country, shows that the reduced price may help lower the overall cost of living.
The revised price breakdown is as follows:
-
1 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦1,020
-
3 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦3,060
-
5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦5,100
-
10 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦10,200
-
12.5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦12,750
This decline marks a significant shift from the previous upward trend in gas prices and is likely to positively impact the economy, particularly the food and hospitality sectors. Businesses that rely on cooking gas will experience reduced operational costs, ultimately boosting their profit margins.
Experts attribute the drop in cooking gas prices to several factors, including fluctuations in global energy costs and adjustments within local supply chains. Despite recent variations in crude oil and natural gas prices, the reduction is perceived as a welcome development for Nigerian consumers.
By spending less on cooking gas, households and small businesses will now see some financial relief in their monthly budgets, especially during these economically challenging times.
