The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has established a total of 2,238 polling units in preparation for the upcoming gubernatorial elections on November 11 in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states. This announcement was made by Kunle Ajayi, a national commissioner of INEC and member of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), during a press conference held in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, on Tuesday.
Ajayi elaborated on the measures INEC has taken to facilitate voting for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), including the provision of braille ballots for visually impaired voters, magnifying glasses for individuals with albinism, and enlarged posters for voters with hearing impairments. These steps are aimed at ensuring the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the electoral process and preventing their disenfranchisement due to their unique circumstances.

He further emphasized, “We have implemented additional measures to incorporate a voting process that prioritizes PWDs and vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. The post-2023 general election review sessions conducted at the state level, in Abuja, and in Lagos were highly successful. We received numerous suggestions on ways to enhance the electoral process, and some of these suggestions have already been put into practice.”
Ajayi concluded by stating that INEC is committed to implementing recommendations that require administrative action in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi state, and they are working diligently to increase voter education and awareness through engagements with the media.
