This clarification was made by Atiku’s Special Adviser on Media, Paul Ibe, while responding to questions during a televised interview on Wednesday. He dismissed reports suggesting that both political figures had entered talks aimed at negotiating or sharing the ADC presidential ticket.
Ibe explained that the focus of both Atiku and Obi is currently centred on building a strong and credible alternative political platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He noted that any discussion about ticket-sharing or compromise would be premature at this stage.
According to him, the success of any presidential ambition depends largely on the strength and structure of the platform being considered. He added that speculation about personal ambitions or ticket arrangements only serves as a distraction, which he attributed to political narratives promoted by the current administration.
Meanwhile, indications have emerged that opposition parties are intensifying consultations as the 2027 elections draw closer. Political stakeholders across various parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ADC, are reportedly holding strategic meetings aimed at forming a united front against the APC.
Sources familiar with the discussions disclosed that consultations involving key political actors, including Atiku and Obi, are ongoing, although details of the engagements remain undisclosed. The sources noted that outcomes of the talks would become clearer in due course.
In response to claims that the PDP was making moves to draw both Obi and Atiku into a broader opposition coalition, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, reportedly played down the suggestion, dismissing it as unfounded.
