According to party officials, the APC is fully backing Fubara’s administration and his bid for a second term. National Secretary Ajibola Basiru emphasized that no APC governor would be undermined and praised Fubara’s governance, describing him as effectively running the affairs of his state.

Fubara officially joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 9, 2025, a move widely seen as a strategic step toward securing re-election. His defection was followed by 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly switching allegiance to the APC, further consolidating his political influence.

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda identified Fubara as the party leader in Rivers State while urging collaboration with other stakeholders. Nevertheless, Wike has maintained that Fubara’s second term is uncertain, accusing him of breaching their peace accord and warning against opportunistic politics. The FCT minister insisted that he remains the political leader in the state, citing his control over local government and ward structures.

In response, Fubara, speaking at a public event broadcasted on Arise TV, dismissed accusations of political intimidation, saying, “The only reason the dog barks is when it doesn’t understand. We know where we are going and have set all the things that are needed to make the journey smooth.”

APC insiders have rejected Wike’s assertions of political dominance. A national officer stated that decisions regarding Rivers State’s political future rest with the President and not Wike. The official noted that incumbents seeking re-election generally enjoy a political advantage and emphasized that Fubara, as an APC governor, has the full support of the party’s Governors’ Forum.

Basiru further underscored the party’s identification with Fubara, highlighting his role in government and his appointment to an important presidential committee. He urged respect for all governors, cautioning against derogatory remarks within the party.

Other senior APC figures, including Deputy National Organising Secretary Duru Eze and Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim, affirmed that Fubara, like all governors joining the APC, would receive full backing from the President, the National Working Committee, and the National Executive Committee, reflecting the party’s commitment to its leadership and development agenda.
