The suspects appeared before the Chief Magistrate of the Lagos State Mobile Court on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, facing four separate charges related to the incident. The court adjourned the matter to February 19, 2026, for further hearing. While one defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail, the remaining five suspects were remanded in custody pending the continuation of proceedings.

The operation, which led to the impoundment of 56 vehicles—including 44 commercial buses, five private cars, and seven trucks—was conducted to tackle persistent traffic and environmental violations in the area. It was personally supervised by LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, and executed jointly with security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Corps, the Lagos State Task Force, and LASTMA field officers.

Authorities explained that the enforcement followed repeated complaints from the Nigerian Airport Authority (NPA) regarding illegal activities and encroachment by criminal groups and non-compliant commercial drivers along the airport corridor. The NPA highlighted cases of harassment, intimidation, and dispossession of members of the public as key concerns.

During the operation, five officers of the joint task force were attacked with dangerous weapons, and one of LASTMA’s tow trucks was deliberately set ablaze in an attempt to disrupt the exercise. Despite these threats, the enforcement team reportedly carried out their duties with professionalism, courage, and restraint.

Mr. Bakare-Oki, reacting to the incident, reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure, ensuring the safety of road users, and maintaining law and order across the state. He warned that criminal acts targeting enforcement officials would be met with decisive legal action and assured residents that operations along key strategic corridors would continue unabated, in collaboration with sister agencies, to curb criminality and safeguard lives and property.
