The Niger State Government confirmed that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is expected to officially receive the freed pupils and teachers at the Government House in Minna on Monday.

It would be recalled that the Papiri community came under attack on November 21, 2025, when terrorists stormed the area at night and abducted a total of 315 pupils and teachers from the school. The incident sparked widespread outrage and concern across the state and beyond.

Within two days of the abduction, 50 pupils reportedly escaped from the kidnappers’ hideout and reunited with their families. About two weeks later, on December 8, another group of 100 abducted pupils was released, bringing relief to many households affected by the incident.

Thirteen days after the release of the 100 pupils, the remaining 165 abductees, including teachers, have now been freed, marking the end of the ordeal faced by the school community.

The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the development, stating that the schoolchildren had indeed been released, although he declined to provide further details at the time.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger State, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, also confirmed the release through his media aide, Daniel Atori. He disclosed that Governor Bago personally contacted him to inform him of the development, adding that the exact number of those released was not specified.

The freed pupils and teachers are expected to arrive in Minna on Monday, where they will be formally received by the governor at the Government House.
