The Kebbi State Government has dismissed the 2027 governorship ambition of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, describing it as “a fruitless political adventure” and affirming that the people of the state remain solidly behind Governor Nasir Idris.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said Malami’s reported bid was nothing more than a desperate attempt to reclaim relevance after being “rejected by the people.”

According to Zuru, Kebbi voters are now politically enlightened and no longer swayed by “political gimmicks and empty promises.”

“In Kebbi today, the electorate is wide awake. They know their rights and are witnessing real dividends of democracy under Governor Nasir Idris,” he said.

Zuru described Malami’s alleged defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a knee‑jerk reaction to the strong endorsement Idris enjoys within the APC.

“Malami’s exit to the ADC — a party driven by personal ambition rather than ideology — clearly stems from the unanimous vote of confidence APC stakeholders have passed on Governor Idris,” he said.

He highlighted that the governor currently enjoys the backing of the three serving senators, several federal legislators, and many state assembly members, many of whom have joined the APC in recent months.

Zuru also challenged Malami to show tangible evidence of development initiatives in Kebbi during his eight‑year tenure as justice minister:

“It is shocking that someone who held such a powerful federal position for eight years cannot point to a single meaningful legacy in Kebbi. Most of his so‑called investments are in other states, not here,” he stated.

He accused Malami of resorting to token gestures like cash handouts disguised as loan schemes:

“After eight years in power, all he boasts of is distributing COVID‑19 palliatives and handing out cash? Kebbi people are not naïve; they see through this.”

In contrast, Zuru reeled out Governor Idris’ achievements: empowering over 10,000 businesses with more than ₦10 billion, supplying free fertilizers, power tillers, and irrigation pumps to farmers, as well as rehabilitating schools, health centres, and building new roads and skills acquisition hubs across the state.

“These are visible, verifiable projects. That is the difference between genuine leadership and empty ambition,” he said.

Zuru urged all aspirants eyeing 2027 to present concrete records of service rather than engaging in blackmail and unfounded accusations:

“We challenge every aspirant to show what they’ve contributed to Kebbi’s development. Enough of the falsehoods and fruitless distractions,” he added.
