Federal Government Vows To Commend Super Eagles For Advancing To 2023 AFCON Final The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to recognize and appreciate the Super Eagles for their remarkable achievement in reaching the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast on Wednesday, February 7. This commitment was conveyed through a statement posted on the official Instagram page of the Super Eagles earlier today, February 8. The Instagram page shared a series of group photographs featuring the Super Eagles, along with the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), among other dignitaries including FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and Oil magnate Wale Tinubu. The pictures were captured in the Super Eagles’ dressing room immediately after their victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final stage of the 2023 AFCON through a penalty shootout. Following a 1-1 draw between Nigeria and South Africa in regulation time, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where the Eagles’ goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, made crucial saves to secure Nigeria’s spot in the final. A statement shared on the Super Eagles Instagram page reads: “The Federal Government has committed to rewarding the Super Eagles for their dedication and hard work in advancing to the Final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. “Vice President Kashim Shettima, accompanied by Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), along with Oil mogul Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, conveyed the government’s pride and appreciation to the players and officials in the dressing room after their well-earned victory over South Africa in the semi-finals on Wednesday.” It’s worth noting that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the host nation, Ivory Coast, in the 2023 AFCON final scheduled for 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11
