reports that Olayinka was found guilty on three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with 13-year-old girls.
The offences were committed inside the church’s mission house located in the Agah area of Ganmo, where he served as the spiritual leader.
The court also handed him 14 years’ imprisonment for facilitating illegal abortions for some of the victims and for issuing threats to prevent them from reporting the abuse.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hammed Aliyu Gegele held that the convict abused his position as a clergyman and subjected the victims to both physical and psychological trauma.
The judge described him as “a paedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be condemned by society.”
Olayinka was initially arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The charges were filed under provisions of the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms Act, and the Kwara State Child Rights Law, 2006.
During the trial, the prosecution presented 12 witnesses and submitted several exhibits before the court, with the case led by Chief State Counsel Issa Zakari.
Court Orders Forfeiture Of Firearm
Justice Gegele ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the charges of rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, and illegal abortion against the defendant.
However, the court discharged him on the count of bigamy, stating that it was not sufficiently proven.
The judge further ordered the forfeiture of a pump-action gun recovered from the convict to the Federal Government.
