According to Nivo News, the remaining 130 pupils kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, were released following what officials described as a military and intelligence-led operation. The disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga stated that the students were freed on Sunday, November 21, and are expected to arrive in Minna on Monday, where they will reunite with their families ahead of the Christmas festivities. He explained that 100 pupils had earlier been released, bringing the total number of freed students to 230.
He emphasized that the successful rescue was achieved through coordinated military and intelligence efforts, underscoring the government’s commitment to securing the release of abducted citizens.
Further confirmation came from the Presidency earlier on Sunday, assuring Nigerians that no student from St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School in the Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area remains in captivity.
Also speaking on the development, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, affirmed that the final batch of 130 pupils had been released. In a post shared on his official social media handle, Dare announced that all abducted pupils from the Niger State school had regained their freedom, accompanied by images showing smiling children alongside an adult.
The development has been welcomed as a major relief to parents, guardians, and the wider community, marking the end of a distressing episode that had drawn national attention.
