Adams, attached to the DSS Economic Intelligence and Investigation Department, appeared as the prosecution’s first witness and was led in evidence by C.S. Orubor, counsel to the DSS.

He told the court that the DSS received a petition from the EFCC regarding social media posts in which Oddiri accused Olukoyede of embezzling the ₦4 billion. Adams said the defendant was arrested in Lagos on November 10, 2025, and brought to DSS headquarters for questioning. Videos of Oddiri making the allegations were recovered from his phone and Facebook account.

He added, “We also obtained copies of a letter of admonishment from the EFCC responding to a petition submitted by the defendant to the commission. The petition, written by the defendant and sent to the UK Serious Fraud Office, accused the EFCC chairman. A letter from Wahab Shittu, SAN, counsel to the EFCC chairman, requested the defendant retract the allegation. A preliminary report was submitted to our superior, and we requested information from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.”

Orubor informed the court that the trial and consideration of Oddiri’s bail application were scheduled to commence. However, M. Adeniran, Oddiri’s counsel, objected, claiming he had been denied access to his client in DSS custody and was therefore unable to prepare a defence.

“My lord, it’s a criminal trial, and he has been in detention without access to us. I have not been able to brief him on his defence,” Adeniran said. Oddiri also confirmed that his lawyer had not been fully briefed.

The DSS counsel argued that all relevant materials had been served on the defence.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the trial should proceed after confirming service of processes on the defence and adjourned the matter to March 13 for continuation of the trial and hearing of the bail application.

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
