Cash-for-Grades Allegation? LASU Boots Out Two Lecturers Over Fund Misuse
The Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed two senior academic staff members over allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual harassment, inhumane treatment of students, and financial impropriety.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Their dismissal was ratified during the university’s Governing Council’s 143rd Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, according to a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu.
One of the affected lecturers is Dr. Olatunji Abanikanda, former Dean of the Epe Campus, Department of Agricultural Science. His dismissal followed multiple findings, including subjecting final-year students to extreme and degrading conditions during farm practicals. A viral video had earlier shown students exposed to harsh weather conditions, standing for hours under the sun and rain without shelter, food, or water.
Fanu stated, “Prof. Olatunji Tajudeen Fasasi Abanikanda was dismissed for actions prejudicial to university security, including keeping students on the farm from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. without breaks, food, or water, even during a heavy downpour.”
Other charges against Abanikanda included sexual harassment of female students, verbal abuse of staff and students using threats and profanities, and unauthorised monetary collections in violation of university regulations.
The second lecturer, Dr. Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, who served as the Coordinator of the Department of Animal Sciences at the same Epe Campus, was dismissed for gross dereliction of duty.
She was accused of flouting university procedures and failing to remit over ₦10.6 million proceeds from farm produce sales into the university’s coffers, instead depositing the funds into her personal bank account—an act contrary to university financial guidelines.
“These offences constitute serious misconduct and breach the university’s Conditions of Service for Senior Staff (2017, as amended),” Fanu stated.
The university management reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward abuse of office, affirming its commitment to upholding academic and administrative integrity.
