Benue South Youths Give Fulani Herders Quit Notice, Warn of Land Fumigation

In a statement signed by the group’s president, Comrade Magaji Mike Alidu, and released on Friday, the youths expressed alarm over repeated attacks allegedly carried out by suspected herders. They cited the recent assault on Ojantele Akpete ward in Apa Local Government Area, which reportedly resulted in several fatalities, extensive destruction of property, and the displacement of local residents.
The group highlighted the impact of these attacks on the Idoma and Igede ethnic groups, accusing the perpetrators of not only killings and arson but also rape, theft, and intimidation—leaving many communities economically crippled.
Declaring the region can no longer accommodate what they called “enemies of progress,” the group issued a formal quit notice to the herders and announced upcoming plans to fumigate farmlands and surrounding bushes. According to the statement, the fumigation is intended to protect crops during the farming season, but the exercise could pose risks to livestock.
They cautioned that herders should relocate immediately for their own safety. “We have issued this warning in good faith. Any harm or loss incurred during this period will not be our responsibility,” the group stated emphatically.
