These scholars issued their warnings during a special discourse organized by KolaDaisi University in honor of the university’s founder and Chancellor, Chief Kola Daisi, on the occasion of his upcoming 91st birthday on September 14. The discussion centered on “Contemporary Issues in West African Sub-region Military Coup d’État and Democratic Fragility.”

Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, the VC and a professor of Law, delivered a keynote address titled “Resurgence of Coup D’État in West African States.” He strongly condemned the recent resurgence of coup d’État incidents involving young military officers in countries such as Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Niger over the past three years. Olatunbosun stressed the need for advocates of democracy to stand against this condemnable trend and highlighted the role of ECOWAS in addressing the stability challenges within the sub-region.
