In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, the deputy governor addressed the deceptive narratives, which he believed were part of a deliberate campaign by those who view him as a formidable contender in the upcoming 2023 gubernatorial election.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the individuals behind the smear campaign felt threatened by his impressive track record, strong rapport with Governor Akeredolu, and widespread public support.
He stated, “These fabrications would have been disregarded, but we have a responsibility to prevent the public from falling prey to repeated and recycled falsehoods. These actions aim to tarnish the reputation of a man seen as a threat to certain political interests.”
Aiyedatiwa highlighted the previous attempt at blackmail and commended himself for skillfully managing state affairs during his time as acting governor, defusing provocations without resorting to drastic measures.
Additionally, it was announced that all media aides assigned to the deputy governor’s office have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. This decision was conveyed in a statement by Olabode Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
The affected aides include Kenneth Odusola (Press Secretary to the Governor), Oladipupo Okunniga (Special Assistant to the Governor – New Media), and Samson Abayomi Adefolalu (Special Assistant to the Governor – Photography). They have been instructed to return all government property in their possession to the acting Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Furthermore, the press crew previously assigned to the deputy governor’s office has been disbanded, with members directed to return to their respective ministries and stations. The Ministry of Information and Orientation has been tasked with providing comprehensive coverage of the deputy governor’s office activities moving forward.
