House Of Representatives Refutes NLC’s Allegations of N100m Palliatives, Calls For Retraction And Apology

In response to the Nigeria Labour Congress’s claims that the Federal Government provided N100m in palliatives to National Assembly members, the House of Representatives has firmly refuted these allegations. Christopher Onyeka, the National Assistant Secretary of the NLC, had initially made these claims in a statement from Abuja. House Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, characterized the allegations as groundless and lacking factual basis.

The House of Representatives expressed deep concern over the widespread dissemination of Mr. Onyeka’s statement in various media outlets and emphasized that his assertion about N100m palliatives to National Assembly members was entirely untrue. They categorically stated that no such funds were received from the executive branch at any point, deeming the statement as malicious, irresponsible, and made in bad faith.

Furthermore, the House of Representatives condemned Mr. Onyeka’s misrepresentation of facts, noting that it appeared to be an attempt to support legitimate NLC demands while simultaneously tarnishing the reputation of the National Assembly and inciting public sentiment against the institution.

Consequently, the House of Representatives has demanded an immediate retraction of the false claim and a public apology from the Nigeria Labour Congress. They also extended an invitation to the NLC to view the National Assembly as a partner rather than an adversary. The 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers and the well-being of all citizens, pledging to continue advancing these goals.
