In a post on his Instagram page, Eke suggested that the spate of violent attacks targeting local farmers, especially those relying on indigenous seeds, appears far from coincidental.

According to him, widespread violence, land seizures, and kidnappings are systematically driving smallholder farmers off their lands, crippling traditional food production. In the wake of this disruption, foreign corporations are moving in with GMO-based alternatives.

Eke warned that if this trend continues, Nigeria could become increasingly dependent on imported and patented seeds owned by multinational biotech companies—ultimately dismantling the country’s local food systems.

He wrote:
“Over the past decade, agricultural regions in Nigeria—especially Benue—have seen rising insecurity mainly targeting farmers. This doesn’t seem like a random occurrence. It may reflect a larger agenda tied to the global push for GMOs in Africa. Benue, known as the ‘food basket of the nation,’ relies heavily on small-scale farmers who use traditional seeds. But ongoing herdsmen attacks, land grabs, and kidnappings are displacing them. As food production declines, foreign corporations swoop in with GMO ‘solutions.’ With traditional agriculture under siege, our dependence on imported, patented seeds grows. Insecurity is creating the perfect opportunity for GMO interests to dominate. Or am I just overthinking?
