Labour Party Unmoved by Exodus, Says Nenadi Usman: ‘Our House Is Intact’”
The Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has dismissed concerns over the recent spate of defections from the party, insisting that the LP remains strong, united, and unwavering in its mission to provide Nigerians with a genuine alternative to what she called the “rudderless and visionless” administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with journalists on Saturday in Kaduna, Usman urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the LP, stressing that the party is committed to restoring national dignity and delivering people‑centered governance.
She described the APC-led Federal Government as the most impoverishing in Nigeria’s history, lamenting that hardship and suffering among citizens had reached unprecedented levels.
“The APC has failed Nigerians. The suffering of our people has never been this widespread or this severe,” she said.
Addressing the wave of defections—some of them to the ruling APC—Usman condemned the actions as “morally indefensible” and even “legally questionable.”
“It is disheartening to see people jump ship after winning an election on one party’s platform, only to defect for selfish reasons,” she noted.
Despite the departures, Usman maintained that the LP remains unshaken and continues to enjoy grassroots support. She explained that many of those who left never truly shared the party’s ideals, and their exit has only helped to sharpen the party’s focus and improve internal cohesion.
“We made some mistakes in candidate selection, but those lessons have been learned. Moving forward, we will be deliberate in choosing people who truly believe in our mission to build a new Nigeria,” she added.
Usman further called on aggrieved members to set aside their grievances as the LP embarks on a nationwide membership revalidation, state congresses, and a national convention—all approved by the party’s National Executive Council.
