Can you briefly tell us about yourself?
I’m 20 years old, and I graduated from St. Jude’s Private School, Festac.

You emerged as the overall top scorer in the 2025 UTME with 375. What do you think made the difference for you?
Consistency was key. I studied my textbooks and notes diligently, both from school and from the UTME tutorial classes I attended. I was enrolled at a tutorial centre called Achievers Educator Academy, and they were instrumental in my preparation.

They had CBT (Computer-Based Test) facilities where I practised weekly. I also worked on past UTME questions every day. I started preparing early and made sure to stay consistent.

After my daily lessons, I would return home and read from about 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., revising my notes, practising questions, and making sure I understood every topic. I didn’t just cram — I focused on truly understanding concepts. That six‑hour evening routine was almost a daily habit.

Besides your evening routine, did you read at other times too?
Yes, I did. Most mornings, before heading out for lessons, I would squeeze in some reading as well.

You were once enrolled in a university. Did that experience help shape your UTME performance?
Not really. I got admitted into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2021 to study Medicine and Surgery, but I eventually lost interest in the course, and it affected my academic performance. In 2024, after reflecting and talking with my parents, I decided to withdraw. My UTME success wasn’t tied to that experience.

Why did you initially choose Medicine if your passion is in Mathematics and Physics?
At first, I thought I wanted to be a doctor. But as I went through the programme, I realised Medicine wasn’t for me. My real passion was in Mathematics and Physics, so I had to make that tough decision to start afresh.

What course are you planning to pursue now?
Mechanical Engineering.

How will you stay motivated this time around and avoid losing interest?
Mechanical Engineering is built on Mathematics and Physics — subjects I naturally love. That alone gives me confidence that I’ll stay committed. I’m determined to work even harder and excel.

What advice do you have for other students preparing for UTME?
First, find a truly effective tutorial centre. Mine was a big help. Start preparing early, be consistent, and practise as much as you can. With the right discipline and focus, success will follow.
