South Africa took the lead through Nonhlanhla Mthandi, who pounced on a defensive lapse, but the Black Queens drew level in the second half after goalkeeper Andile Dlamini mistakenly put the ball into her own net.
With no extra time played, the match went straight to a penalty shootout, where Ghana triumphed after South Africa’s Holweni and Magaia failed to convert their spot-kicks.
Commenting on the final showdown between Nigeria and hosts Morocco, Ghana’s Swedish head coach expressed confidence in the Super Falcons.
“I think it’s going to be an exciting game. Both teams have their strengths, but I believe Nigeria have more quality and potential,” she said.
Nigeria, the most decorated team in WAFCON history with nine titles, will aim for a record-extending 10th championship when they face the Atlas Lionesses in Rabat at 9 p.m. tonight.

When the appointment was first announced, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted Aina’s deep background in digital infrastructure, public-sector reforms, and national examination systems, noting his historic milestone as one of Nigeria’s youngest computer engineering professors.
In his inaugural address, Aina acknowledged the foundation laid by his predecessor—who is widely credited with modernizing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)—and vowed to expand on those achievements. Emphasizing a strong stance against malpractice, he warned wrongdoers that their illicit activities have no place at JAMB, promising to ramp up modern technological investments and deepen partnerships with security agencies to safeguard the integrity of the admissions process.
