According to the report, the Construction sector shows the strongest hiring potential, while the Mining and Quarrying sector leads in expansion prospects.
“In anticipation of business growth, firms plan to boost employment in June 2025,” the report stated.
The CBN noted that the Business Confidence Index rose to 18.7 index points in May, reflecting improved sentiment among business operators. The optimism is projected to grow further, reaching 41.1 index points over the next six months.
All surveyed sectors expressed confidence in the macroeconomic climate, with Agriculture topping the list at 23.2 index points this month. Over the next six months, Industry’s confidence is expected to more than double, hitting 42.2 index points.
Regionally, North-East Nigeria recorded the highest optimism (36.2 index points), while South-East Nigeria had the lowest (2.3 index points), largely due to the impact of insecurity on businesses in that region.
On their own business operations, all sectors reported positive outlooks for the review period, with the Construction sector leading at 16.7 index points.
However, the report also highlighted persistent challenges. Insecurity (74.5%), high interest rates (73.9%), and high taxes (73.4%) were identified as the top three constraints affecting business performance in May 2025.

Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush also made the squad following an impressive season, while 18-year-old Barcelona U19 striker Hamza Abdelkarim earned a surprise call-up despite not yet making a senior international appearance. Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed was among the notable omissions.

The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group G, where they will begin their campaign against Belgium on June 15, followed by matches against New Zealand and Iran.
The squad also includes goalkeepers Mohamed El Shenawy and Mostafa Shobeir, along with experienced midfielders Mahmoud Trezeguet and Emam Ashour, as Egypt prepare for the expanded 48-team World Cup across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
