Published

At a recent gathering in Ibadan, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, raised concerns over what he described as escalating persecution against the PDP nationwide. The meeting, hosted by the Oyo State Government at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre, brought together PDP governors to assess the party’s performance and chart a course for the future.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde voiced confidence in the PDP’s future, asserting that the party is on track to reclaim leadership at the federal level by 2027. He emphasized that the party has internalized lessons from past missteps and is more united and prepared to govern.

Governor Mohammed also stressed that, despite challenges, the PDP remains cohesive and resilient. He assured the public that the PDP governors and the National Working Committee are aligned in their mission to uphold good governance and resolve internal conflicts.

While the meeting showcased a united front, key figures such as Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara (currently suspended) and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri were absent. However, Akwa Ibom and Delta States were represented by their respective deputy governors.

Addressing speculation about internal rifts, Mohammed dismissed such rumors and affirmed the governors’ collective commitment to progress. He highlighted the strides made in infrastructure, education, and security by PDP governors across various states—including Oyo, Adamawa, Zamfara, Osun, Bauchi, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.

Speaking specifically on the Rivers State situation, Mohammed reiterated that all PDP governors—and indeed governors nationwide—stand in solidarity with Governor Fubara. While careful not to pre-judge legal proceedings, he called for respect of democratic institutions and equitable governance.

He said the Ibadan retreat was not merely ceremonial but a strategic peer-review session to evaluate progress and align party strategies. According to him, PDP governors are determined to set a governance benchmark that restores Nigeria’s dignity as the “giant of Africa.”

Governor Makinde, in his remarks, criticized speculations surrounding the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 elections. He clarified that PDP would chart its course without external interference and maintained that the party has the leadership, structure, and maturity to resolve its challenges internally.

Makinde concluded by stating that the 2027 election would not just be a contest against the All Progressives Congress (APC), but a defining moment between the ruling party and the Nigerian people.

Peter Obi Barred from Visiting Benue IDP Camps, Calls for Change in Political Engagement

Published

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to the Benue State Government’s alleged obstruction of his intended visit to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, stating it marks a turning point in how he will engage politically going forward.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NivoNews, Obi, known for his philanthropic engagements across Nigeria, had scheduled visits to Plateau and Benue States to extend support to victims of conflict. These visits included courtesy calls to state governors, as well as visits to IDP camps and nursing institutions.

While he was warmly received in Plateau by Governor Caleb Mutfwang—who allowed him to spend time with victims in Bokkos—his plans in Benue were reportedly frustrated. Obi revealed that despite multiple attempts to contact Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia directly, he was unsuccessful. The Governor’s ADC later informed him that the governor was in meetings and unavailable, promising a call that never came until days later.

On the day of the planned visit—Monday, April 14, 2025—Obi departed Jos in the early hours, heading toward Makurdi. However, while in Akwanga around 10:00 AM, his security team intercepted a press statement allegedly from the Benue State Government, indicating that his visit was not authorized. The same statement, which specifically referenced his itinerary, was subsequently forwarded to him by the governor’s ADC.

Expressing disappointment, Obi stated that the visit was strictly humanitarian and not politically motivated. He emphasized that supporting IDPs, nursing education, and public health initiatives has long been a part of his personal and political journey, even before he assumed public office.

“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t comment on this,” Obi shared via his official account. “But given recent developments, it’s clear I must start speaking out. I’ve faced worse challenges since declaring my presidential ambition, yet I’ve remained committed to civility and organized political engagement.”

He added, “My intention was to visit a bishop-led school project in Gboko, a nursing school, and an IDP camp. These were purely acts of compassion and support for vulnerable Nigerians.”

Obi also referenced past humanitarian missions, such as his 2010 visit to earthquake-stricken Haiti, approved by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, to underscore his longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes.

He concluded by reiterating that his efforts are driven by a desire to bring relief and hope to displaced Nigerians and to invest in critical sectors like health and education.

2027: APC Chieftain Ridicules Atiku-El-Rufai Coalition, Predicts Crushing Defeat

Published

on

A senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has ridiculed the emerging political alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Akindele claimed that even if the duo were to align with infamous terrorists like Abubakar Shekau and Bello Turji, they would still face a resounding defeat in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Akindele stressed that both Atiku and El-Rufai should not be entrusted with power when it eventually returns to the North, presumably in 2031. He maintained that leadership at that time should come from a candidate who represents the collective interest of all Nigerians.

He criticized the structure and credibility of the newly proposed opposition coalition, stating that neither Atiku, El-Rufai, nor Peter Obi has full control over any political party. Drawing comparisons to the 2015 APC merger, Akindele explained that real coalitions require strong party leadership, as was evident when Bola Tinubu and Muhammadu Buhari unified their respective parties—ACN and CPC—before unseating the then ruling party.

“Let Atiku and El-Rufai even join forces with Shekau and Turji—they will still lose badly in 2027,” Akindele wrote.

He argued that unlike Goodluck Jonathan, who completed the tenure of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and sought re-election, Tinubu is currently serving his own term without succession complications. Therefore, Akindele concluded, opposition figures should not expect history to repeat itself in their favor.

This statement comes on the heels of recent declarations by Atiku Abubakar, who revealed plans to form a grand opposition coalition aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the next election. The coalition reportedly includes influential politicians such as Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai, and may see integration with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai’s move to the SDP has been linked to his concerns over what he describes as diminishing internal democracy within the APC under Tinubu’s leadership. Similarly, former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo disclosed that conversations are underway between Atiku, Obi, and the SDP, focusing on a possible alignment.

Adebayo expressed optimism that if these major players join the SDP and uphold its values, they could mount a formidable challenge against the ruling APC and potentially end President Tinubu’s political dominance.
