Rivers Crisis: Ibas Explains Why He Appointed Sole Administrators for All LGAs

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has explained his rationale for appointing administrators across all 23 local government areas in the state. According to Ibas, the decision was driven by the urgent need to support the governance of the state, especially at the grassroots level.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a meeting with the newly appointed administrators at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, April 11, 2025, Ibas emphasized that his visits to several LGAs revealed a significant gap in administration and service delivery. This, he said, informed his decision to appoint capable individuals to help actualize President Bola Tinubu’s directive to restore peace and functional governance across the state.
“I realized I needed competent hands to assist in managing local governance effectively. That’s why, on April 7, 2025, I selected those of you seated here today,” Ibas told the appointees.
He charged the administrators to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and service, urging them to lead without bias and prioritize the welfare of the people. Key areas of focus for the administrators include sanitation, environmental care, primary healthcare, education, staff discipline, and youth engagement.
Ibas warned that his administration would not tolerate misuse of public funds, abuse of office, or administrative recklessness. He stressed that local government resources must be utilized solely for their intended purposes, and promised strict monitoring to ensure compliance with due process.
“The people deserve to know how their resources are being used. You are responsible for making sure every kobo is accounted for,” he stated.
He concluded by reminding them that their appointments were based on merit, competence, and trust, not political favoritism—adding that their success or failure would significantly impact the return of democratic structures in Rivers State.

Tinubu, Shettima Win Praise as NAHCON Overcomes ATM BTA Controversy

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman Pakistan, has publicly expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their decisive intervention in resolving the recent controversy over the issuance of Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) to intending pilgrims via Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Professor Pakistan, the timely involvement of the Presidency led the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reverse its earlier directive mandating ATM card issuance instead of cash for pilgrims, a move that had sparked widespread concerns.
While acknowledging the inevitability of global technological evolution, the NAHCON Chairman emphasized that such innovations must be integrated thoughtfully, in line with local culture and societal readiness. He stressed that progress must respect the realities on the ground, especially for predominantly rural and elderly pilgrims who are unfamiliar with modern banking systems.
He further pointed out the practical challenges with the ATM policy, highlighting the limited availability of machines in Makkah and Madinah — cities that annually host millions of pilgrims. In many of the areas where Nigerian pilgrims reside, he noted, it is rare to find even five functional ATMs.
Professor Pakistan underscored the need for proactive strategies by Hajj officials to prevent future public outcry and ensure the BTA system is both efficient and accessible. He also disclosed that, after the conclusion of this year’s pilgrimage, NAHCON will convene a stakeholders’ meeting under the guidance of Vice President Shettima to develop a long-term solution.
