FG Counters Northeast Lawmakers: ‘You’re Not Excluded from Tinubu’s Agro Projects

The Federal Government has denied claims that President Bola Tinubu’s administration sidelined the Northeast region from its Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) initiative.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, clarified that three states in the region—Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi—are actively participating in the SAPZ program, while Yobe, Taraba, and Adamawa have yet to express interest or meet the program’s entry requirements.
Kyari emphasized that the Northeast is not excluded, contrary to accusations made by members of the region’s National Assembly caucus. He noted that inclusivity is a core value of the current administration and that participation in federal initiatives such as SAPZ depends on proactive engagement and fulfillment of set criteria by individual states.
“It is important to correct the misconception that the Northeast was left out,” Kyari said, stressing that some states either didn’t apply or failed to meet the necessary benchmarks for inclusion in the program’s second phase.
The response follows allegations by the Northeast caucus of the National Assembly, led by Senator Danjuma Goje, that the region has been marginalized in the implementation of key federal projects, including SAPZ. The caucus, representing lawmakers from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states, called on President Tinubu to reassess his administration’s approach to ensure equitable distribution of development efforts.
The SAPZ project, valued at $530 million, is a multi-partner initiative funded by the Federal Government in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The program aims to stimulate agricultural development and processing across strategic zones in Nigeria.
Kyari reiterated that the federal government remains committed to fairness, urging states to take the necessary steps to benefit from national development programs.

Governor Okpebholo Dethrones Three Traditional Rulers in Bold Leadership Move

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has revoked the appointments of three traditional rulers across various local government areas of the state, citing legal irregularities and governance concerns. The affected monarchs include Alhaji Umoru Inusa Umoru (Aidenogie of South Ibie, Etsako West), Lukman Akemokue (Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, Etsako East), and Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor (Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, Etsako East).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday. The administration emphasized that the appointments—particularly those made in 2024 by the previous administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki—did not follow appropriate customary or legal processes.
Governor Okpebholo reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the legitimate Aidenogie of South Ibie, stating that the position was never lawfully declared vacant before the earlier replacement.
Regarding the throne of Okpella, the governor highlighted that Akemokue’s appointment contravened the Bendel State Legal Notice No. 132 of 1979, which outlines succession procedures for the Okuokpellagbe title. The state has now begun the formal process to select a new, legally recognized traditional ruler for the community.
Dr. Egabor’s removal as Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom was also confirmed, with the state linking his dethronement to ongoing insecurity in the area, including kidnappings and killings. His suspension had previously been announced pending investigations into the breakdown of order under his reign.
Governor Okpebholo called on residents of the affected communities to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that all actions taken are in line with existing laws and the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace, unity, and progress in Edo.
