Nollywood Actress Jemima Osunde Decries Rising Trend Of Prioritizing Social Media Presence Over Talent

Published

Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has voiced her concerns over a growing trend in the Nigerian film industry, where social media popularity appears to be increasingly prioritized over acting talent in casting decisions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Naija News, Osunde shared her thoughts during a recent conversation with fellow actor Jammal Ibrahim, expressing frustration that filmmakers now expect actors to maintain a strong presence as content creators on social media in order to be considered for roles.

“It’s starting to feel like actors are being compelled to become social media content creators before they’re even considered for casting,” she said. “It’s as though if you don’t have a significant online following or aren’t constantly dancing or posting online, you won’t be hired. That shouldn’t be the actor’s responsibility.”

Supporting her stance, Jammal Ibrahim highlighted the importance of proper talent management in addressing such industry pressures. He noted:

“I told my management team that I’m not a dancer – I’m actually a terrible dancer. A good manager should work with an actor’s unique personality instead of trying to mold them into someone else.”

He further emphasized that actors shouldn’t feel obligated to participate in publicity stunts or viral trends, especially if those efforts compromise their authenticity.

“If there’s a PR campaign that involves dancing, I simply won’t take part unless it genuinely aligns with who I am. I don’t want to look ridiculous or be forced into something that doesn’t suit my personality,” he added.

Both actors underscored the need for the industry to focus more on talent and individuality rather than relying heavily on online visibility as the basis for casting decisions.

Peter Okoye Testifies Against Brother Jude in N1.38bn Fraud Case

Published

on

The ongoing feud between the Okoye brothers of P-Square, Peter, Paul, and Jude, has taken a dramatic turn as Peter Okoye testifies against his elder brother, Jude, in a case involving an alleged N1.38 billion fraud. The testimony was given before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter, represented by his lawyer, Afolabi I, brought forward accusations against Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, claiming they were involved in financial misconduct, which led to their referral to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Jude faces a seven-count charge, which includes allegations of money laundering and fraud.

One of the charges asserts that in 2022, Jude and Northside Music Limited illegally acquired a property in Lagos valued at ₦850,000,000, knowing it was funded by unlawful proceeds. Jude has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During his testimony, Peter recounted the history of P-Square, revealing that the group had been disbanded in 2017 but reunited in 2021. He also highlighted long-standing issues with Jude’s management of the group, particularly concerning access to their finances. Peter revealed that Jude was the sole signatory to their bank accounts, causing friction within the group.

Peter shared several troubling instances, including when he was denied access to financial statements and account details despite numerous attempts to address the situation. He described how he discovered discrepancies in the financial records, including the mismanagement of their music catalog and the creation of a company named Northside Music Limited, which appeared to be a parallel entity to their own.

Further evidence was presented that suggested funds owed to Peter were being misdirected, with various financial documents indicating significant tampering and manipulation of the accounts. Peter’s testimony also revealed that his inquiries into the matter were met with resistance, and his efforts to reclaim control over the music catalog were thwarted by his brothers.

In court, Peter expressed frustration at the lack of transparency, and his attempts to address the situation were described as ineffective, as both Jude and Paul failed to provide clear answers or solutions. He also discovered that Jude and his wife controlled the majority of Northside Music Limited, further complicating the situation.

The case continues as Jude faces multiple legal challenges, and the Okoye brothers’ personal and professional tensions remain at the forefront of public attention.

According to the actor, the label feels like a way of pushing him into the category of retired individuals, suggesting that his career is nearing its end. He referred to the title as a “scam” and explained that while he respects icons like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie, whom he considers true legends, he doesn’t see himself as deserving of such a label yet.

“I think all those legend things are a scam. I have my legends like Uncle Olu Jacobs, Uncle Peter; those are our ancestors, our legends,” RMD said. “I don’t subscribe to that. I think it is a scam when they call me legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighbourhood of retired people or people who should be nearing retirement,” he added.

RMD’s remarks come as part of his ongoing conversation about his career and the expectations placed on seasoned actors. While he acknowledges the immense contribution of those who paved the way, he remains focused on his continued work in the industry, rejecting the notion of being labeled as past his prime.
