Britain And France Accuse Russia Putin Of Stalling Ceasefire Efforts In Ukraine

Published

Britain and France have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of intentionally delaying ceasefire talks aimed at ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They have also increased pressure on Moscow by insisting that Putin owes the United States an immediate response after prolonged efforts to secure a truce.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, Russia has dismissed a U.S. proposal for a full and immediate 30-day cessation of hostilities, with a Kremlin official indicating that Moscow perceives the peace process as “lengthy.” British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, speaking alongside his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot at NATO headquarters, criticized Putin’s approach, accusing him of deliberately prolonging the ceasefire negotiations.

Lammy remarked, “Our assessment is that Putin continues to obfuscate and delay,” emphasizing the need for Russia to take decisive action toward peace. Meanwhile, a Kremlin envoy visiting Washington for discussions described the ongoing dialogue as “positive and constructive,” but acknowledged that further talks would be necessary to resolve outstanding issues.

In the midst of these diplomatic efforts, the conflict continues to take a toll on civilians. On Thursday night, a Russian Shahed drone struck a residential area in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, resulting in five fatalities and 32 injuries. Other Ukrainian regions also reported drone attacks, while Russian forces claimed to have intercepted 107 Ukrainian drones.

Military analysts warn that Russian forces are preparing to launch a major ground offensive as weather conditions improve, potentially increasing pressure on Ukraine during ceasefire negotiations. In response, Britain and France are spearheading a multinational initiative known as the “coalition of the willing” to potentially oversee a future peace agreement, with around 10 to 12 countries expressing willingness to participate.

Despite Ukraine having accepted ceasefire terms three weeks prior, Russia has yet to respond decisively. French Foreign Minister Barrot criticized Moscow’s continued military aggression and stated, “Russia has been inconsistent, continuing its strikes and war crimes. It must give a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer.”

The two foreign ministers reiterated their commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s armed forces, emphasizing that military support remains vital given the U.S. decision to exclude NATO membership for Ukraine. Senior coalition military officials are set to convene in Kyiv, while defense ministers will gather at NATO headquarters next week to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine.
