During the hearing, the Kano State Government’s lawyer, Ibrahim Wangida, informed the court that an appeal had been filed with the Supreme Court, which, in accordance with legal procedures, places a temporary halt on actions stemming from the Court of Appeal’s March 14, 2025 decision.

The case concerns the Kano State Government’s reinstatement of Sanusi II after the passage of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which also removed Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano. Bayero, however, continues to legally challenge his removal while residing under heavy security in the Nassarawa mini palace.

Investigations revealed that neither Olutoke nor his company had the required legal permits to operate an investment business. Instead of trading the funds as promised, the EFCC claims the money was used to acquire expensive properties, including the Ikeja hotel.

During the hearing, Okezie argued that the hotel should be seized as it was reasonably suspected to have been purchased with proceeds from unlawful activities. After reviewing the evidence, Justice Owoeye agreed, ruling that the asset should be temporarily taken over while the case proceeds.
