Edo Vice Principal Expresses Disappointment, Accuses Obaseki Of Failing Them

The Vice Principal of Evbareke Secondary School in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Mrs. Mary Izewingie, expressed disappointment on March 25, 2025, claiming that the school’s management had to carry out palliative works themselves after the previous governor, Godwin Obaseki, failed to respond to their appeals for help.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Vice Principal made this statement while Governor Monday Okpebholo was inspecting the school, along with several others in the Egor and Ikpoba Okha local government areas. She explained that despite repeated cries for help, nothing had been done to improve the school’s condition, which has remained the same since 2022.
“We have cried out several times, but nobody listened to us, and learning has been difficult for our students. We even carried out palliative repairs ourselves, but the rains destroyed our efforts,” she said.
Governor Okpebholo, visibly displeased with the poor state of public schools, declared a state of emergency in pre-primary and post-primary schools in Edo. He emphasized that children in Edo deserve a better learning environment and stressed that the state of education in the state was completely unacceptable.
“I feel very bad about the state of the schools I inspected today. Look at the type of schools our children are attending—it is completely unacceptable,” said Okpebholo. He promised immediate action to improve the infrastructure, starting with Evbareke Secondary School and Army Day Secondary School in Ikpoba-Okha.
Additionally, Omonzane Ebanehita, the chairman of the State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), supported the Vice Principal’s claims, adding that Evbareke Secondary School lacks a conducive learning environment. She also informed the governor that multiple letters had been sent regarding the situation, which she had forwarded to him. She expressed gratitude to the governor for his visit and efforts to resolve the issues.

WAUTI, which comprises National Tax Institutes/Associations from ECOWAS member states, is committed to enhancing tax professionalism, improving tax compliance, and streamlining tax administration within the region. In his acceptance speech, Agbeluyi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization, vowing to collaborate closely with fellow executives and stakeholders to advance the Union’s objectives. He highlighted his commitment to working on regional partnerships that will support professionalism in the tax systems of WAUTI’s member states.
Agbeluyi’s vast experience, which includes serving as the Honorary Treasurer and 2nd Vice President of CITN, has positioned him well for this new role. He is also a distinguished member of various prestigious bodies, such as the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), and has earned numerous accolades in the field of taxation.
In addition to Agbeluyi’s election, other members of WAUTI’s Executive for the 2025-2027 tenure were also selected, including the re-election of Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, CITN’s current Vice President, as the Honorary Treasurer.
