Governor Fubara had invited the lawmakers to a discussion at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling recognizing them as legitimate legislators and directing the governor to present the 2025 budget to them.

However, the lawmakers rejected the invitation, citing improper communication.

Speaking to Punch on Tuesday, Fubara’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Jerry Omatsogunwa, described their refusal as a missed golden opportunity.

He reaffirmed that the governor is committed to peace and may consider reissuing the invitation in the spirit of unity and governance.

“At the inauguration of the Judges’ Quarters today, the governor reiterated his commitment to implementing every Supreme Court decision. That should answer any questions about the budget and other crucial matters,” Omatsogunwa stated.

When asked if Fubara would send a fresh invitation to the lawmakers, he responded:

“I believe the lawmakers missed a golden opportunity. If they genuinely care about Rivers State, they would have accepted the invitation. However, Governor Fubara, being a man of peace, may decide to extend another invitation to ensure alignment. Even in the Bible, God says, ‘Come, let us reason together.’”

Omatsogunwa also stressed the importance of cooperation, noting, “Neither the governor nor the lawmakers will be in office forever. They must work together to advance the development of Rivers State.”
