Reports indicate that the attack took place around 2:05 p.m. near the Ilesa West Local Government Area as Omowaiye, a former Osun State Commissioner for Works, was traveling back to Osogbo.

Sources disclosed that Omowaiye had earlier led members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa to the Area Command of the Nigeria Police to seek protection for reinstated local government executives attempting to resume office.

Following their visit to the police, Omowaiye and the APC members briefly convened at the party’s secretariat before dispersing. However, as Omowaiye’s convoy approached the Ilesa West Local Government premises, it was ambushed by unidentified gunmen who fired multiple shots at his white Toyota Hummer bus.

Omowaiye recounted the harrowing experience, confirming that his driver and a police orderly suffered severe gunshot wounds during the incident.

“I was returning to Osogbo from Ilesha when we ran into an ambush in front of Ilesa West Local Government. The attackers shot directly at my seat, shattering the side windscreen,” he revealed.

He added that the reinstated chairman of Ilesa East was also targeted in the attack.

Omowaiye has demanded a full investigation and justice for those responsible.
