Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the release of 11 inmates from various correctional centres across the state, as part of efforts to ease congestion and support rehabilitation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by Uche Anichukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on External Relations.

According to Anichukwu, the governor’s gesture is intended to give the freed individuals a fresh opportunity to become productive members of society. The inmates were formally presented to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kingsley Udeh, by the Chief of Staff, Victor Udeh.

The beneficiaries of the pardon include: Ugochukwu Oma, Onah Nnamdi, Chiadikobi Onu, Emmanuel Sambo, Emeka Nyia, Ngene Oluebube, Francis Chinecherem, Eze Chigozie, Anthony Tombari, Francis Chibuzor, and Uzoma Nnaoche.

Governor Mbah exercised his constitutional powers under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), in consultation with the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

Anichukwu explained that the decision followed thorough assessments and recommendations from the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Advisory Council, which determined that the inmates had shown genuine reform and acquired skills for reintegration.

The Advisory Council, chaired by the Attorney-General, includes representatives from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Carmelite Prisoners Interest Organisation (CAPIO), and the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), among other key justice-sector stakeholders.

2027 Twist: Wamakko Disowns Vice Presidential Speculations, Calls It Distraction

Published

on

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, has firmly denied claims linking him to a vice-presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Abdallah el-Kurebe, Wamakko described the reports as false, unauthorized, and politically mischievous. The denial follows remarks made by the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Abdullahi Yerima, and published by a national daily (not The PUNCH), suggesting that Wamakko was being considered for the VP slot.

Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto State and Sarkin Yamman Sokoto, clarified that he has never expressed interest—publicly or privately—in contesting for the vice presidency or any such political office in the 2027 election cycle.

Amid ongoing tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Vice President Kashim Shettima’s political future, speculations have emerged about a possible North-West replacement for the VP slot—claims Wamakko has now firmly rejected.

He described Yerima’s statement as reckless and misleading, calling for its immediate retraction and a public apology.

“Senator Wamakko remains fully committed to serving Sokoto State and Nigeria through responsible leadership and political maturity. He will not be drawn into baseless and opportunistic political narratives,” the statement concluded.

2027 Shockwave: APC Leaders Clash Over Nwoko’s Alleged Imposed Endorsement in Delta North

Published

on

The endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko for a second term in the Senate has ignited sharp divisions within the Delta North chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). While party executives in his home base of Aniocha North reiterated their backing, the broader senatorial leadership distanced itself from the endorsement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The controversy began on June 14, 2025, when a forum of APC local government and ward chairmen from Delta North’s nine LGAs declared support for Nwoko’s re-election during a gathering at his country home. Among those present was the Delta North APC Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka.

However, days later, Eluaka came under pressure from undisclosed party stakeholders and publicly withdrew from the endorsement, disbanding the forum behind it. He described the group as “unauthorised and unconstitutional,” insisting the move was necessary to restore order within party ranks.

In a swift pushback, APC executives in Aniocha North stood firm, reaffirming their support for Nwoko’s candidacy. In a statement signed by party elders and officials, they accused critics of political manipulation and external interference, citing Nwoko’s performance and grassroots connection as reasons for their loyalty.

They also praised Aniocha North APC Chairman, Mr. Matthew Chinye, for distancing himself from opposing voices within the party, calling his stance a mark of “principled and credible leadership.”

Responding to the controversy, Senator Nwoko said over 7,000 party members attended the Delta North APC stakeholders’ meeting, including top figures such as the state and senatorial chairmen, state working committee members, and other party leaders. He said a motion of confidence was unanimously passed in support of President Tinubu, the Delta State Governor, and himself during the meeting.
