Speaking on a snippet of the Mic On podcast, 2Baba explained that such comparisons ignore the different eras, impacts, and contributions of the two artists. He added that placing Wizkid and Fela side by side is unfair to both, as it diminishes Fela’s legacy while not fully appreciating Wizkid’s own achievements.

Nigerian media personality Yeni Kuti also weighed in, urging contemporary artists to compare themselves only with their peers rather than trying to measure up to Fela, whose influence remains unmatched nearly three decades after his death.

Speaking on Yanga FM Nigeria, Omotola described the episode as a pivotal moment in her career. She explained that the restriction affected eight prominent actors at the time, including herself, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nkem Owoh, and one other actor.

The ban prevented them from working with certain film marketers, limiting their participation in movie projects. While marketers claimed the actors were having a negative impact on the industry, Omotola said the real issue was their push for higher filmmaking standards, which unsettled some industry gatekeepers.

She noted that the duration of the ban varied, with some actors returning after about a year. Omotola’s ban lasted longer because she skipped a meeting arranged to resolve the conflict, further straining her relationship with the marketers.

During the downtime, Omotola stayed productive by venturing into music, releasing her first album, and expanding her business interests, including property investments. She emphasized that the period helped her grow in other areas despite the setback in acting.

Reflecting on the experience, she said it taught her to explore new paths rather than dwell on things beyond her control. “The first 8 were me, Genevieve, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, RMD, Nkem Owoh, and one other person. We were 8, they just banned us,” she recalled.
