In an effort to voice their concerns regarding the challenges faced by women and families, the Concerned Naija Women Group recently organized a peaceful protest.
This protest occurred at the church bus stop along the Ketu axis of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway and featured women dressed in black attire, symbolizing their distress over their current circumstances. They beseeched God for intervention.
The group’s leader, who chose to remain anonymous, clarified that this demonstration aimed to capture the attention of the nation’s leaders, expressing their exhaustion over the dire situations faced by women, including poverty and hunger-related fatalities.

Sharing the heartbreaking account of a seven-month pregnant woman who tragically perished due to the demolition of their home, leaving three young children behind, the leader stressed that the government should prioritize the welfare of its citizens.
“We urgently require government assistance. We cannot simply stand by while our fellow women perish due to issues that should be preventable,” she declared. “Every human being comes into existence through our wombs, and we are taking this stand to pray for our nation, pleading with God to take control.”
As they implored God to grant them a government genuinely concerned for the welfare of the people, they emphasized the necessity of leaders who possess empathy and commitment to their citizens. They expressed discontent over leaders whose children reside abroad and lack a connection to the people they govern.
Another member of the group, referred to as Iya Risikat (a pseudonym), lamented the unbearable conditions prevailing in the country. She pointed out that since the resumption of schools, many children had been unable to return, not solely due to school fees but also because numerous households couldn’t afford to provide meals for their kids. This dire situation resulted in children staying home due to the inability to attend school on empty stomachs.
She emphasized that education was no longer accessible to the impoverished masses, prompting their call on God for assistance. They hoped that God would inspire compassion in the government to consider the plight of the masses, preventing further suffering and hardship.
“All the mandates the government has given us, we have followed them diligently. However, we continue to endure various forms of suffering,” she noted. “Poverty is causing homes to disintegrate, and many people are forced to live beneath bridges. Husbands are failing to fulfill their responsibilities, and children are left uncared for.”
