The troops of the 103 Battalion (Rear) of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, currently engaged in Operation UDO KA II, successfully rescued Dr. Maxwell Ayim in the vicinity of Four Corner-Agbogwe Junction in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. This remarkable rescue operation took place without harm to Dr. Ayim and was detailed in an announcement released in Enugu on Saturday by Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, Nigerian Army.

Unuakhalu explained that the rescue mission unfolded when the troops stationed at the Udi checkpoint received an urgent distress call from the police regarding the incident. Upon arrival at the scene, the troops encountered the kidnappers, and their superior firepower forced the criminals to flee in disarray, sustaining gunshot injuries as they escaped into nearby bushes.

The army spokesperson further disclosed that during the subsequent pursuit of the fleeing gang, the troops discovered the victim, Dr. Ayim, abandoned by the kidnappers. Dr. Ayim was promptly rescued and later reunited with his family following preliminary medical assessments.
