In the ongoing trial of the $9.6 billion Process and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) fraud case, a prosecution witness, Umar Hussein Babangida, disclosed to Justice D.O Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday that attempts to prosecute Trinity Biotech Nigeria Limited’s Managing Director, Patrick Nash (also known as Gerald Nash), had failed as he had fled the country before he could be apprehended.

Under cross-examination by the defense counsel, Michael Ajara, Babangida, who headed the investigative team, clarified that their investigation was initiated following a petition from the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. This petition was prompted by a judgment against the Federal Republic of Nigeria in favor of P&ID for $9.6 billion.

The witness detailed their investigative process, which involved collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Requests made to the CAC included information about the company’s name, shareholder details, addresses, changes, and related documents, all of which were provided.
