In a statement issued on Thursday, Alhaji Abass Onilewura, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), pointed fingers at former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso for the defeat of Kano Governor Yusuf Abba in the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The tribunal recently ruled in favor of Nasir Gawuna, the APC candidate, stripping Abba of his victory.

Onilewura alleged that Kwankwaso had betrayed the NNPP by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure a potential ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. According to him, Kwankwaso’s actions led to anti-party activities that resulted in the NNPP’s significant loss in the Kano tribunal.

He stated, “This loss is a significant setback for NNPP, and it occurred solely due to Kwankwaso’s self-serving actions in selling out the party to the highest bidder. Had Kwankwaso followed due process and chosen the most qualified candidate for the party’s ticket, this outcome could have been avoided.”
