This response comes 24 hours after a coalition of over 500 gender rights activists, operating under the Womanifesto group led by Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, demanded a retraction and public apology for the minister’s comments. The group expressed deep concerns about the implications of her statements on the interests and protection of vulnerable women and children in Nigeria.
In the video, the minister was heard suggesting that the students involved in the UNICAL sexual harassment case were being influenced to remove Prof. Cyril Ndifon from office, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law. She also reportedly threatened the students with severe consequences, including imprisonment, if they continued pursuing the case, arguing that since the female students admitted they were not raped, there was no sexual harassment.
In her statement, Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized her commitment to upholding due diligence, the rule of law, justice, and fairness as fundamental principles for building an equitable society. She expressed sincere apologies to those offended by her comments, citing her genuine intentions and advocacy for the welfare of Nigerian women.
She concluded, “I stand for all Nigerian women and I stand for justice, and it is my hope that we can work together to actualize the dream of a country where women’s rights are respected and protected, and where our daughters feel safe in institutions of learning.”

Nigeria Crushes Terror: 13,000 Militants Eliminated, 124,000 Surrender In One Year.
According to the Presidency, Nigeria has recorded an 81 per cent decrease in terror-related fatalities since 2015, a feat attributed to intensified counter-insurgency operations and strengthened cooperation between security agencies and local communities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A statement released on the Presidency’s official account on Sunday highlighted that over 13,000 terrorists were neutralized in the past year, while approximately 124,000 insurgents and their dependents voluntarily surrendered to authorities amid ongoing security operations.
The statement added that more than 2.1 million internally displaced persons have returned to their communities, with reconstruction efforts actively underway in regions previously affected by insurgency.
The Federal Government has also launched a Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict, aimed at rebuilding communities, facilitating reintegration, and restoring livelihoods for displaced households.
“Since 2023, the Federal Government, through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, has relentlessly pursued, apprehended, eliminated, or successfully prosecuted terrorists and insurgents, particularly those responsible for some of the most egregious attacks on Nigerian soil,” the statement read.
The Presidency reported that over 124 terrorists have been convicted since 2024, including key figures in violent extremist networks. High-profile suspects, such as members of Ansaru, those implicated in the 2022 Owo Church bombing, and individuals linked to reprisal attacks in Yelwata, Benue, are currently facing trial in various courts.
The government emphasized that joint security task forces, permanent border patrols, victim compensation, and intelligence collaboration with international partners are among the ongoing measures to protect lives and uphold national sovereignty.

APC Slams Peter Obi: “Fix Your Polling Unit Before Dreaming Of Fixing Nigeria”.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him to abandon any plans for the 2027 presidential election, citing a collapse of his political influence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s statement, issued on Sunday, followed Obi’s failure to secure his polling unit for the Labour Party during the Anambra governorship election. APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, questioned Obi’s credibility as a national leader, asking how he could aspire to govern the country when he “cannot command loyalty in his own neighbourhood.”
Oladejo described Obi’s polling unit defeat as a reflection of the decline of his political momentum since the 2023 elections. “A man who cannot win his polling unit has no business dreaming of winning a country. A man who is rejected on his street cannot claim nationwide acceptance. A man whose strongest base has crumbled cannot sell the lie of a national movement,” he stated.
The APC further accused Obi of seeking foreign intervention after local setbacks, warning that Nigeria’s democracy should not be manipulated by politicians “seeking sympathy abroad after being rejected at home.” Comparing Obi with President Bola Tinubu, Oladejo argued that while Tinubu is consolidating governance, improving infrastructure, and attracting foreign investment, Obi is engaged in “contradictory interviews and hashtags that collapse at the ballot box.”
He emphasised that Nigerians would not entrust their future to someone who allegedly lacks confidence within his own political base. “If Peter Obi cannot command trust in his polling unit, he should forget 2027. Nigerians will not hand over their destiny to a man whose own people have loudly withdrawn their confidence,” Oladejo said.
According to the APC, the party’s victory in Obi’s polling unit was “symbolic, conclusive, and prophetic,” reflecting what they described as the national mood. Oladejo urged Obi to repair his local political structures before attempting to position himself as a national problem-solver, adding: “Peter Obi should spare the nation further melodrama. Let him first repair the political damage at his doorstep before pretending he can repair Nigeria.”
The remarks are seen as part of growing political tensions as parties and stakeholders prepare for the 2027 general election.
