Ngozi Okolie, a member of the House of Representatives representing Delta State’s Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency under the Labour Party (LP), has asserted that his opponent from the last general election, Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), knew he did not genuinely win the election but believed that his financial resources could secure victory.

Okolie maintained that Ndudi, who contested his victory by taking the election results to the tribunal, was merely attempting to test the waters and identify who would align with him in his quest.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television, Okolie shared his perspective on the matter, particularly in light of the recent developments.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja recently overturned the earlier ruling of the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, which had nullified Okolie’s election and declared Elumelu as the legitimate winner. The court’s decision was based on the assertion that the LP candidate was not qualified to contest the election.

However, Okolie contended that Ndudi challenged the election results primarily because of his substantial financial resources and a belief that money could sway the outcome in his favor.

In Okolie’s words, “The tribunal’s judgment was clearly unjust, which is why we decided to file an appeal. Thankfully, the Court of Appeal saw the matter differently from the tribunal and restored the confidence that many of us were losing in the judicial system.”

He added, “Anyone familiar with the Court of Appeal’s judgment can discern that something was amiss in Asaba.”

Okolie also emphasized that he and Ndudi were friends, but he believed that his opponent was fully aware that he had not genuinely won the election. According to Okolie, Ndudi attempted to test the waters and find supporters who would align with him in his quest. While the lower tribunal ruled in favor of Ndudi, the Court of Appeal demonstrated that money could not buy everything.

According to a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Justice A.O. Owoeye, sitting at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday, March 12, 2026, ruled that the Responsible Leaders Hotel, located at 1 Ostra Close, Jobi Fele Way, Alausa, Ikeja, be temporarily handed over to the government. The property is valued at approximately ₦1.3 billion.

The order followed an urgent application by the EFCC, presented by its lawyer, C.C. Okezie, who provided evidence suggesting the hotel was acquired through illicit means. The application was supported by an affidavit sworn by Obed Tanko, an EFCC investigator.

According to the EFCC, Olutoke allegedly convinced numerous Nigerians to invest billions of naira in a capital-guaranteed forex trading and investment scheme, promising secure funds and high returns.

“The suspect allegedly obtained billions of naira from unsuspecting investors under the guise of operating a capital-guaranteed forex trading and investment scheme,” the commission said.

Investigations revealed that neither Olutoke nor his company had the required legal permits to operate an investment business. Instead of trading the funds as promised, the EFCC claims the money was used to acquire expensive properties, including the Ikeja hotel.

During the hearing, Okezie argued that the hotel should be seized as it was reasonably suspected to have been purchased with proceeds from unlawful activities. After reviewing the evidence, Justice Owoeye agreed, ruling that the asset should be temporarily taken over while the case proceeds.

The judge also ordered the EFCC to publish the decision in a national newspaper, allowing anyone with a legal claim to the hotel to come forward and explain why the property should not ultimately be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
