Governor Bala Mohammed discussed these plans during a meeting with members of the State Council of Emirs at the Government House in Bauchi. He emphasized that the aim of the salary increase was to enhance the royal duties of traditional leaders, enabling them to better complement the government’s efforts in addressing security challenges that have recently resurfaced in some local government areas.

Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of Bauchi State and emphasized the significance of traditional institutions during his tenure. He called on the traditional rulers to diligently oversee their domains to prevent undesirable elements from seeking refuge in their territories as security operations intensify.

Despite limited financial resources in the state, the governor explained that his administration chose to enhance the earnings of traditional titleholders, diverting their attention from offers made by bandits and criminals. He also noted that the recent removal of some compromised District and Village Heads was meant to serve as a deterrent to others.

Governor Mohammed credited the success of his administration to the strong support of the traditional institution and the people of the state. He pledged to continue partnering with them and requested their assistance in ensuring equitable and transparent distribution of Federal Government palliatives.

The Emirs expressed their appreciation for Governor Mohammed’s infrastructure development efforts and legacy projects, recognizing his respect for traditional institutions, which they attributed to his own background as a member of the institution. The delegation, led by the chairman of the council, Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, praised the governor’s commitment to the welfare of traditional institutions and offered their continued support for his administration.

The Council of Emirs called on the newly constituted state executive council to prioritize development for the entire state, avoiding sectional biases.

Governor Okpebholo Dethrones Three Traditional Rulers in Bold Leadership Move

Published

on

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has revoked the appointments of three traditional rulers across various local government areas of the state, citing legal irregularities and governance concerns. The affected monarchs include Alhaji Umoru Inusa Umoru (Aidenogie of South Ibie, Etsako West), Lukman Akemokue (Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, Etsako East), and Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor (Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, Etsako East).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday. The administration emphasized that the appointments—particularly those made in 2024 by the previous administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki—did not follow appropriate customary or legal processes.

Governor Okpebholo reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the legitimate Aidenogie of South Ibie, stating that the position was never lawfully declared vacant before the earlier replacement.

Regarding the throne of Okpella, the governor highlighted that Akemokue’s appointment contravened the Bendel State Legal Notice No. 132 of 1979, which outlines succession procedures for the Okuokpellagbe title. The state has now begun the formal process to select a new, legally recognized traditional ruler for the community.

Dr. Egabor’s removal as Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom was also confirmed, with the state linking his dethronement to ongoing insecurity in the area, including kidnappings and killings. His suspension had previously been announced pending investigations into the breakdown of order under his reign.

Governor Okpebholo called on residents of the affected communities to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that all actions taken are in line with existing laws and the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace, unity, and progress in Edo.
