Dr. Adamu Muhammad, leading the group, urged the Chief of Army Staff to maintain the pressure on criminal groups in the country, emphasizing that peace, unity, and development can only thrive in an environment devoid of insecurity.

The group also asserted that General Lagbaja possesses the requisite qualities to bring an end to insurgency, banditry, and other forms of criminality in the nation, having served as a commander in numerous theaters of conflict within the country.

The coalition highlighted the enhancement of the welfare of troops and their families through various welfare initiatives as among the milestones achieved since General Lagbaja assumed the role of Chief of Army Staff (COS).

They stated: “Under the leadership of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the criminal activities of the notorious Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the southeast have been effectively curtailed.”

“The sit-at-home order issued by the proscribed group has been disrupted through the intensified operations of Operation Udoka, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the region. This has revived economic activities and restored normalcy in the region.”

“Soldiers have intensified their efforts against the insurgent groups Boko Haram/ISWAP, resulting in the elimination of several high-ranking members, destruction of camps, and the apprehension of numerous group members in the regions.”

“The clashes between herders and farmers in the North Central states of Benue, Nassarawa, and Plateau have significantly decreased due to the military’s actions.”

The CSOs expressed their unwavering support for Lagbaja, describing him as an exceptionally skilled and resolute soldier. They lauded his initiatives and restructuring of the military and called upon Nigerians to stand behind Chief of Army Staff General Lagbaja in his determination to eradicate criminality in the country, asserting that the end of such activities is within reach.

2027 Shockwave: APC Leaders Clash Over Nwoko’s Alleged Imposed Endorsement in Delta North

Published

on

The endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko for a second term in the Senate has ignited sharp divisions within the Delta North chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). While party executives in his home base of Aniocha North reiterated their backing, the broader senatorial leadership distanced itself from the endorsement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The controversy began on June 14, 2025, when a forum of APC local government and ward chairmen from Delta North’s nine LGAs declared support for Nwoko’s re-election during a gathering at his country home. Among those present was the Delta North APC Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka.

However, days later, Eluaka came under pressure from undisclosed party stakeholders and publicly withdrew from the endorsement, disbanding the forum behind it. He described the group as “unauthorised and unconstitutional,” insisting the move was necessary to restore order within party ranks.

In a swift pushback, APC executives in Aniocha North stood firm, reaffirming their support for Nwoko’s candidacy. In a statement signed by party elders and officials, they accused critics of political manipulation and external interference, citing Nwoko’s performance and grassroots connection as reasons for their loyalty.

They also praised Aniocha North APC Chairman, Mr. Matthew Chinye, for distancing himself from opposing voices within the party, calling his stance a mark of “principled and credible leadership.”

Responding to the controversy, Senator Nwoko said over 7,000 party members attended the Delta North APC stakeholders’ meeting, including top figures such as the state and senatorial chairmen, state working committee members, and other party leaders. He said a motion of confidence was unanimously passed in support of President Tinubu, the Delta State Governor, and himself during the meeting.

The judge, who presides over Court 7 of the Bayelsa State High Court, was kidnapped near Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa, while in the company of his two daughters. In a statement issued Sunday, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Francis Alonyenu, clarified that the kidnappers were impersonators, not actual police officers. He added that Governor Douye Diri had directed all security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the judge and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Alonyenu revealed that the command is collaborating with other agencies, reviewing surveillance footage, and using crime mapping techniques to track the kidnappers. He called for public cooperation and urged residents not to interfere with ongoing rescue operations.

Committee chairman and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, revealed that these proposals will be deliberated during a two-day zonal public hearing scheduled for July 4 and 5, 2025.

The hearings will be held concurrently across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones—in Lagos (South-West), Enugu (South-East), Ikot Ekpene (South-South), Jos (North-Central), Maiduguri (North-East), and Kano (North-West).

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Senator Barau, the committee is committed to engaging Nigerians on wide-ranging constitutional reforms.

Mudashir disclosed the regional breakdown of state creation requests: five each from the South-West, South-South, and North-Central zones; seven from the North-East; six from the North-West; and three from the South-East.

Beyond state creation, the hearings will cover critical national issues, including:

  • Local government autonomy: A bill seeks to constitutionally recognize local councils as a third tier of government with guaranteed tenure.

  • Electoral reform: Another proposal advocates for the establishment of an independent National Local Government Electoral Commission (NALGEC) to oversee local government elections.

  • Security reform: Two bills propose the creation of state police and a State Security Council to enhance internal security coordination at the state level.

  • Fiscal accountability: Six fiscal reform bills will be reviewed, including one to empower the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission to enforce remittance compliance and streamline the revenue allocation process.

  • Another bill proposes to mandate specific timelines within which the president or state governors must submit their annual budget proposals to the legislature.

Additionally, the committee will consider a gender equity bill to reserve additional legislative seats for women in both the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly, as part of broader efforts to promote inclusive governance.
