Massive Floods In Eastern Libya Leave Nearly 3,000 Dead, 10,000 Feared Missing

Massive Floods In Eastern Libya Leave Nearly 3,000 Dead, 10,000 Feared Missing....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Eastern Libya has been devastated by massive floods, resulting in nearly 3,000 confirmed deaths and approximately 10,000 individuals feared missing. The calamity unfolded after Storm Daniel, an exceptionally lethal Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone, caused the collapse of two dams, inundating major parts of the city of Derna.
Derna, with a population of around 100,000, witnessed the sweeping away of numerous buildings, the drowning of residents, and the washing away of a seafront bridge, transforming the area into what authorities have labeled a “disaster city.”
Tamer Ramadan, the head of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) delegation in Libya, expressed concerns that the death toll is likely to rise significantly. Ramadan stated, “We can confirm from our independent sources of information that the number of missing people is hitting 10,000 so far. The death toll is huge and might reach thousands.”
IFRC is considering launching an emergency funding appeal to provide support to flood victims in Libya. The challenges faced include issues related to accessing basic healthcare facilities, shelter and shelter management, and the provision of food and non-food items.
Ramadan noted that IFRC has the support of both rival governments in Benghazi and Tripoli. He mentioned that the government in Tripoli intends to send medical assistance and convoys to the affected eastern region to aid in rescue efforts.
Several countries have offered their condolences and initiated aid efforts for Libya. Turkey, for instance, sent a plane carrying search and rescue teams and essential supplies to assist in the relief efforts.
President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) pledged to dispatch search and rescue teams, while neighboring Algeria and Egypt expressed their condolences following the disaster.
Storm Daniel had previously impacted Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria, resulting in the loss of more than a dozen lives. Additionally, Egypt’s meteorological organization reported an increase in rainclouds over the northwestern coast as preparations were made for the cyclone.
Climate experts have emphasized that global warming is likely to amplify environmental disasters, including severe storms, in the future.
