A former Minister of Aviation and a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Osita Chidoka, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its failure to implement real-time electronic transmission of election results during the 2023 general elections.
Chidoka, speaking on Channels TV Politics Today on Sunday, expressed his disappointment with INEC’s performance, particularly in light of the promises made prior to the Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun gubernatorial elections. He described the commission’s actions as a “monumental disgrace” and expressed embarrassment as a Nigerian associated with it.

He stated, “INEC is a monumental disgrace; it is an organization that I am ashamed to associate with as a Nigerian. They made promises with the Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun elections.”
Chidoka had previously called for third-party verification of INEC’s system to ensure that election day would not be marred by glitches. However, on election day, INEC reported encountering technical issues.
He criticized INEC’s decision to argue in court that non-compliance with its regulations should not be grounds for election annulment, especially when the system had not been adequately tested.
Chidoka also emphasized that if INEC had successfully transmitted the election results in real-time, there would have been no need for parties to resort to legal action.
“If the results we saw from the polling units matched what we saw at the collation centers, there would be no reason to be in court,” he added.
Chidoka also suggested that if the right procedures had been followed, there was a possibility that President Tinubu would have emerged as the election winner.
