On Thursday, Senator Okorocha clarified his position in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Sam Onwuemeodo.

Okorocha stated that those behind the rumored defection simply went to town with a “fake story” based on a photograph of him with several PDP chieftains taken recently at a public function in Imo State.
“Our attention has been brought to a rumour stating that Okorocha has joined the PDP,” the statement said in part.
To flesh out the fake story, those behind it uploaded images of Okorocha and a PDP chieftain, Emeka lhedioha, among others.

“Those behind this bogus story purposefully neglected or refused to specify the location and title of the event where the images were taken.
They were also unable to quote a piece of Okorocha’s speech, which he must have delivered at the alleged occasion.
They omitted or concealed such crucial components of the incident or account because they would not fit their purpose or goal.
“We are at ease to say that Okorocha has not joined the PDP. He is still a member of the APC. A burial ceremony could not have become political declaration rally.”

During proceedings on Friday, counsel for all parties adopted their arguments for and against the suit, after which the judge scheduled judgment for April 13.

The defendants, including the ADC, Mark, Aregbesola, former party chairman Ralph Nwosu, and INEC, urged the court to dismiss the case, arguing that it concerns internal party affairs which are not subject to judicial intervention.

They also maintained that the plaintiff lacked legal standing and that the leadership process in question followed due party procedures.

INEC’s counsel also joined in seeking dismissal of the suit, describing it as lacking merit.
